Even in todays times, how many people that saw a sign along a trail would actually know what they were looking at, and not think they were just old drawings. The 'keys' have been deciphered over hundreds of years to give us help, and if you notice, there are many different symbols that mean the same thing (because of people not wanting to use any known symbols) I'm sure there are many symbols that are not on any 'key' that we may have today.People are still unearthing these treasures today. I don't think the poeple who used these codes could have ever envisioned television, or the internet where information is so easily exchanged back then. It was dangerous to carry valuables with you along the trail for fear of being robbed, so people, or groups of people would hide their valuables somewhere that either them, or someone in their group/tribe could find their way back to them.Though these symbols are more known about in these times, communications between different groups of peoples back then was alot harder. You have to remember that back then there wern't banks, and if there was, probably not one close to where most of the people were at. These are free and no one is selling anything. Treasure signs/symbols have been used for many hundreds of years, by the Spaniards, native tribes, early settlers, religious groups, etc. Handbook of Treasure Signs and Symbols by Mary Carson Treasure Signs & Symbols by Thomas Penfield The Rocks Begin to Speak by LaVan Martineau Timberwolf.
